Owning your own business is not for everyone. In fact, the simple truth is that most businesses close before they are two years old. If they do make it, they rarely make it past five years. Though many blame the economy, the truth is that most people don’t have what it takes to have a successful business. Here are some things that you should ask yourself to make sure that entrepreneurship is right for you.
You are going to have to be dedicated and willing to work harder than you ever worked before if you want your business to succeed. You may be working on your business late in the evening after your family has gone to bed or you may put a few hours of work in before everyone else wakes up. You are going to have to do whatever it takes to make your business succeed.
Are you going to be able to push yourself to succeed? Nobody is going to tell you that you have to get off of the couch and get to work. There are going to be days that, no matter how much you love your business, it is going to feel like a chore.
You are going to be the only person who is going to motivate you enough to work on your business. If you aren’t motivated, your business won’t succeed.
Time management is a big deal when it comes to running a business. Not only are you going to have to schedule appointments with your fitness clients, but there is also always going to be paperwork that needs to be taken care of. In order to have a successful business, you are going to have to find time to market your business. All of these tasks can really take up precious time so you are going to have to find a way to balance your time.
No matter how dedicated you are, if your family and friends don’t support you, you are going to struggle with your business. They are going to have to understand when you have to work on your business instead of hanging out in the evenings and on weekends. You may have to miss some of your child’s sports practices in order to finish a project.
Your spouse (or significant other) may have to help you more around the house. Cooking even one meal a week could free up some time, not to mention if he or she is able to help with cleaning or the yard work.
Entrepreneurship isn’t just about passion for a business, you have to choose the right business. If you are not passionate about the business that you choose, you are not going to be able to stick with it when it isn’t as fun.
If you feel like you are dedicated and passionate enough, you have a shot at having a successful business, as long as your family and friends are on board. Though you might not think it makes a difference, if they are not behind you and willing to help out, your business is not going to be as successful as possible.
You also have to be good at managing your time. You are going to have to get a lot of things done every day and time management is essential for that. Self-motivation is also important since you are going to be the only person who is going to push you to work hard for your business.
