Summer is definitely here, and winter has finally disappeared–and with it, the last of your excuses to hide indoors! Now is your time to get active and love what you’re doing! It’s warmer outside, days are longer, and you aren’t weighed down by heavy coats and extra clothing. All you have to do is get out there and do it! If you’re looking for ways to get started with your summer fun, try some of these great tips for healthy summer living!
Stay away from your smartphone as much as possible, and don’t pick your computer up, either. Instead, take a day and do things outside that you don’t normally get to do.
Go see the wilderness. Hike, climb a tree, or go for a run. There are plenty of amazing things to do outside, and with the sun shining down, why not take advantage of it?
Even if you aren’t a runner, look for some of the great fun run opportunities available in your area. Try out a color run, look for a doughnut and coffee or wine run, or see what else is offered in your area. You may be surprised by how much fun it is to simply walk, skip, or dance through the course!
You aren’t too old to take advantage of a day at the park! Grab a frisbee, do some sprints, or challenge some of the kids to beat your time across the monkey bars. Shoot some hoops by yourself or with a friend–or make a new friend while you’re at the park.
Have you ever played tennis? Do you have any idea how to play pickleball? Try out something new and see just how much fun it can be!
If you’ve never learned how to do it right, consider taking a few swimming classes. You aren’t too old to learn how! Not only is swimming great exercise, it’s refreshing, too.
Pick up some fresh fruits and vegetables. Consider trying out a vegetable that you’ve never tried before. Vitamin content is a lot higher in fresh fruits and vegetables, and the flavors are amazing!
With a little research, you can find a hiking trail somewhere close by. See where you can go for a chance to explore.
Mow your yard with a push mower, take the time to rake up those leaves left over from fall, or landscape and create something new in your yard. Spend some time painting your fence. Not only will you burn calories, you’ll have a beautiful yard to enjoy, too!
It’s not too late to create a great garden that will supply you with fresh fruits and vegetables through the fall. The benefits are almost too numerous to list! Gardening is exercise, but it’s also great stress reduction. The improved taste and nutrients from growing your own food can’t be ignored. Get the family involved! It’s a great family project, and getting the kids involved can even convince them to eat more vegetables.
Take a family walk: it’s a great time to catch up with one another. Invite a friend to go with you. Not only will you be enjoying some time with someone close to you, you’ll inspire them to get in better shape, too!
Visit an ocean or lake for a few hours, especially if you have one close by. Playing on the beach is fun, burns calories, and can be excellent stress relief.
Toss your veggies on the grill for a great punch of flavor. Grilled vegetables taste amazing!
Croquet, cornhole, frisbee, catch, tug of war, water balloon fights, and more: there are plenty of great activities to enjoy outside.
Pack up a couple of sandwiches and some fruit for a great, healthy meal. Consider adding a hike or a long walk into this event.
Thanks to smartphones, we all have cameras in our pockets. You can go out for a photo safari anywhere! Try this out: start by looking for an item that starts with the letter A. Progress to the letter B, and so on. When you’ve completed the entire alphabet in order, you win! Engaging a friend in a little competitive fun can make it an even more rewarding experience for both of you.
Make it as active as possible. Look for creative ways to create your clues.
Clean out that pile of junk in the garage or wash and wax your car yourself. It’s a great way to be active!
Summer won’t last forever, so get out there, be active, and do things! Not only will you be in better shape, you’ll be a more interesting person with plenty of things to talk about. When you’re asked, “What did you do this summer?” you’ll have amazing stories to tell!
